The Boys’ Brigade in Tyneside started over 100 years ago and is still helping to lead young men to Christ today. From the early days of just Tyneside companies, the Boys’ Brigade has expanded and now covers companies from Morpeth in the north to Wrekenton in the south and as faw west as Hexham. The number of companies have reduced throughout this area for a number of reasons e.g. people moving out of Newcastle City Centre, churches closing and ageing congregations in most churches. The Boys’ Brigade is the oldest voluntary uniformed organisation and it is celebrating its’ 125th Anniversary this year. The organisation has had many changes throughout its history and is still changing today. The age groups within the organisation are as follows:-
Anchor Boys 6 - 8 years of age All sections have a very varied programme of activities and take part in a progressive award scheme. The programme consists of activities ranging from sports to crafts, hobbies to camping and many other interesting topics.
